The Michigan Office of Child Support charges each local office, and the workers, with this vision:
Engaging parents to improve children’s lives
The Friend of the Court is the collection, enforcement and investigative arm of the Circuit Court in the area of domestic relations. The action by the office is dictated by court order. Orders are issued by the court after the Judge has made a determination and the written document is signed, then filed with the county clerk. To obtain a domestic relations order from the Court, the issue has to be brought before the Court through formal legal action. This is accomplished through private attorneys, sometimes the prosecuting attorney or by action of one of the parties. The Friend of the Court does not become involved until action is filed with the court.

PAYMENT INFORMATION
As of July 2015, the Michigan State Disbursement Unit (MiSDU) will no longer mail payment coupons to you. However, you can get payment coupons from MiChildSupport, the Michigan child support program’s self-service website. MiChildSupport allows you to access your child support case information anytime from your computer or mobile device. Child support payments in Michigan are processed through the Michigan SDU.
The SDU is a federal and state program acronym that stands for “State Disbursement Unit”. The SDU is the single physical work unit responsible for the receipt and disbursement of child support payments. In Michigan, the SDU is the main focus of all activity for Centralized Collections. Centralized Collections is a federally mandated program, established by the 1996 Personal Responsibilty and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA). On November 3, 1999, Michigan Public Act 161 of 1999 was enacted providing authority for the SDU to receive and disburse support payments.
Customers may make debit/credit card payments using the MiSDU.
