The Cheboygan County OEM was created in April 2020 to better serve the citizens of the county to comprehensively plan for and respond to and recover from all manner of disasters whether man-made or natural.  In order to properly facilitate disaster management, CCOEM coordinates with federal, state, and local stakeholders to obtain and direct assets during an event.

Part of the CCOEM Director’s duties are to coordinate, train and educate in emergency management services in the county with public safety at the forefront.

Hazard Mitigation Plan

Cheboygan County is responsible for having an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan. Mitigation planning is the process used by State, Tribal, and local leaders to understand risks from natural hazards and develop long-term strategies that will reduce the impacts of future events on people, property, and the environment. The mitigation plan is community-driven and a living document. Below is a copy of the approved 2023 Hazardous Mitigation Plan. This plan is reviewed and updated every five years.
